EXCO MEETING: KTSG Approves Women’s Economic Empowerment Policy

Okays 3,000 Tube-Wells Across Three Zones (1,000 Each),

The Katsina State Executive Council has approved key policy decisions aimed at promoting women’s economic participation, strengthening agricultural productivity, and improving access to potable water across the state.

A statement signed by Ibrahim kaula Mohammad, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, said the approvals were granted today during the 4th Regular Meeting of the State Executive Council for 2026, held at the Council Chamber of the Government House and presided over by Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Dr. Bala Salisu Zango, said the decisions reflect the administration’s commitment to inclusive development, agricultural support, and improved social services.

According to him, the council deliberated extensively on policies and projects designed to enhance livelihoods, empower vulnerable groups, and ensure sustainable access to essential services across the state.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Aisha Aminu Malumfashi, disclosed that the Council approved the commencement of necessary procedures for the domestication of the National Policy on Women’s Economic Empowerment in the state.

She said the policy would promote women’s participation in economic activities across multiple sectors.

“The policy will ensure that women are not left behind in Nigeria’s economic growth by promoting their participation as employees, entrepreneurs, and leaders across various sectors,” she stated.

Hajiya Aisha explained that the initiative is designed to reduce gender-based disparities and strengthen the economic advancement of women across Katsina State.

“The domestication process will align the national framework with local realities, ensuring inclusive growth and greater opportunities for women in the state,” she added.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Aliyu Lawal Shargalle, said the Council also approved the drilling of 3,000 free tube-wells across the three senatorial zones to support farming activities.

He described the initiative as a strategic intervention aimed at improving irrigation and enhancing food production across the state.

“The initiative is part of government efforts to boost agricultural productivity by providing farmers with improved access to water and other critical inputs and services,” he said.

Hon. Shargalle added that the project would particularly benefit smallholder farmers, increase dry-season farming, and strengthen food security across Katsina State.Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources,

Malam Dasuki Abubakar, noted that the Council approved the procurement of water treatment chemicals to cover the fourth quarter of 2025 and part of the first quarter of 2026.He said the measure was necessary to sustain the supply of clean and safe drinking water to residents.

“The chemicals will be supplied to state water treatment plants to ensure the continued provision of potable drinking water to residents of the state capital and other communities,” he explained.

Malam Abubakar added that the approval would prevent disruptions in water treatment operations and support the state’s efforts to improve public health and sanitation

The Council reaffirmed that all decisions align with Governor Radda’s commitment to inclusive governance, women’s empowerment, agricultural development, and improved access to basic services for the people of Katsina State.
