As part of the decisive effort to intensify the fight against terrorism, the Nigerian Army Headquarters Department of Operations has successfully concluded a sensitisation lecture on Campaign and Contingency Planning for staff officers of 8 Division and Sector 2 Joint Task Force (North-West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY).
A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba,Acting Deputy director army public relations 8 Division Nigerian Army, sector 2 operation fansar yamma said the training, held in 8 Division Auditorium was aimed to bolster strategic and operational planning capabilities, ensuring more effective counter-terrorism operations in Nigeria’s North-West region.

In his welcome address, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 OPFY, Major General Bemgba Paul Koughna, underscored the critical role of robust planning in achieving operational success.
He stated thst Success on the battlefield is not forged by chance, but in classrooms, training grounds and operations rooms where meticulous planning transforms complex challenges into actionable strategies.
According to the GOC, the training is fundamental to realising the Division’ command intent and operational objectives.
Major General Koughna emphasised that campaign planning serves as a vital tool, bridging the gap between a commander’s vision and its execution by staff.
He urged participants to actively engage, ask questions, and share field experiences to ensure the lessons learned are effectively applied in their operational areas.
Representing the Director of Campaign Planning, Army Headquarters Department of Operations, Major General Kenneth Chigbu, the Deputy Director, Colonel Muhammad Jibril, highlighted the importance of campaign and contingency planning as the foundation of successful military operations.
He noted that effective planning enables troops to anticipate threats, mitigate risks and seize operational opportunities in an ever-evolving security landscape.

The lecture focused on integrating military, police, and national forest guard units, supported by enhanced intelligence capabilities and quick reaction forces.
The contingency plans developed were designed to anticipate terrorist movements, disrupt their logistics, and ensure sovereignty-driven operations
The lecture featured interactive sessions between resource persons and participants, fostering a dynamic exchange of ideas and best practices.
The event concluded with group photographs, symbolising unity and shared purpose among the officers.
