The Kaduna State government In steadfast alignment with the administration’s commitment to taking tangible and inclusive development to the grassroots, had commissioned the 100-kilowatt Solar Mini-Grid Project in Damau community, Kubau Local Government Area.
Speaking while Commissioning the project,Gov Uba Sani said this milestone represents a clear departure from more than a decade of energy deprivation and marks the beginning of a new chapter defined by access, opportunity, and dignity.
He explained that with the provision of clean, reliable, and sustainable electricity, households can now enjoy improved living conditions, small businesses can thrive, healthcare facilities can function more effectively, and students can pursue learning in an environment that nurtures aspiration and excellence.
According to him, this intervention is part of a deliberate and expanding energy strategy designed to power Kaduna State’s long-term economic transformation.
The Governor added that “Our growing portfolio includes the 10-megawatt solar project at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; 1.4 megawatts at Kaduna Polytechnic; 4 megawatts in Makarfi; and 2 megawatts at Tappco Ranch. We are also deploying over 1,600 kilowatts of distributed power to Ikara, Soba, and Kudan Local Government Areas, alongside plans to install 250 distribution transformers and 2,000 solar streetlights across the state”
Uba Sani further maintained that in 2026, similar renewable energy projects will extend to Kauru, Jema’a, Igabi, Kajuru, Chikun, Kaura, and Kagarko Local Government Areas, ensuring that no part of Kaduna State is left behind in our energy transition.
While speaking at the commissioning, the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Mr. Abba Aliyu, acknowledged Kaduna State Government’s unwavering commitment to inclusive governance and to reaching the most rural and underserved communities.
He commended the state government for its consistent support and strong partnership with the Agency which affirms the power of collaboration in delivering decentralised, high-impact solutions.
