The Chairman of Zaria Local Government Council, Engr. Jamil Ahmad Muhammad (Jaga), accompanied the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, to the North West Badminton Championship 2026, held at the A.A. Ladan Hall, Federal University of Education, Zaria.
The championship served as a strategic platform for promoting youth engagement, talent development, and regional unity through sports.
The highlight of the event was the Under-12 final, in which Faruk of Zaria Noble Badminton Club defeated Khalid of GSK Badminton Club, Katsina, securing a notable victory for Zaria and reaffirming the area’s growing presence in grassroots sports development.
The event further reflects the Speaker’s strong commitment to sports development and youth empowerment as critical tools for social cohesion and economic advancement.
His visionary leadership continues to translate into tangible interventions, including the successful construction of four modern sporting stadiums and the ongoing development of a world-class sports academy within Zaria Federal Constituency, aimed at positioning the constituency on the global sporting map.
A statement signed by the chief press secretary to the chairman,Ishaq Galadima said in recognition of his consistent support and contributions to the development of badminton in the North West and Nigeria at large, the Chairman was presented with a Special Award of Recognition by the organizers of the championship.
The Chairman dedicated the award to the people of Zaria and reiterated his administration’s commitment to policies and partnerships that promote sports as a vehicle for youth development and community growth.
After the championship, the Chairman led a delegation on a condolence visit to the family of the late Hajiya Amina at Gidan Ibrahim Yaroti, Anguwan Magajiya, Zaria City, where prayers were offered for the repose of her soul and for Allah to grant the family the strength to bear the loss.
The Chairman also attended the wedding Fatiha of Zainab, sister to the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mal. Iliyas Balarabe, at Anguwan Liman, Zaria City.
He prayed for Allah’s blessings upon the union between her and her husband, Umar, and wished the couple a peaceful and prosperous married life.
