The Kaduna State Government will support the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria in terms of provision of infrastructure, upgrading and rehabilitation of its network of internal roads.
Gov Uba Sani who performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the reconstruction and upgrading of the internal road network at Ahmadu Bello University, Samaru Campus, announced this.
The groundbreaking ceremony marks the start of a carefully planned intervention to improve safety, mobility, and the quality of daily life within the university community.
Gov Uba Sani who noted that Ahmadu Bello University occupies a distinctive place in Nigeria’s educational history as the oldest university in Northern Nigeria and a principal academic reference point for nineteen states of the federation, assured the university of his administration’s commitment to continue to support it.
He said that “over the decades, it has produced leaders, professionals, and scholars whose contributions continue to shape national development. Strengthening its physical infrastructure is therefore essential to sustaining academic excellence, institutional relevance, and long-term competitiveness”.
The governor maintained that although Ahmadu Bello University is a federal institution, the Kaduna State Government undertook this project in recognition that education is a shared responsibility.
He said the intervention extends beyond road reconstruction to include proper drainage, street lighting, pedestrian walkways, and access routes for persons with disabilities, measures designed to enhance security, accessibility, and operational efficiency across the campus.
According to him,the project will also create local employment, stimulate economic activity, and strengthen the university’s capacity to host academic, research, and institutional events
. The university’s management and student community commended this timely intervention, describing it as clearly consistent with our administration’s inclusive leadership and sustained investment in quality education.
They expressed gratitude to our government for prioritising the welfare of staff and students and confidence that the upgraded internal road network will significantly enhance safety, accessibility, and the overall campus experience.
