We speak as a concerned civil society group committed to accountability, legality, and institutional stability in public bodies of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We have reviewed the ongoing dispute within the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria.
We are alarmed by the conduct of certain Board members and the damage it poses to public trust, Hajj preparations, and Nigeria’s international standing.
Our position is clear.
Board members who are subjects of ongoing or inherited cases with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have lost the moral standing to sit in judgment over the management of the Commission. You cannot claim oversight credibility while carrying unresolved integrity questions.
Insinuations, allegations, and public accusations are not substitutes for evidence. Where Board members allege misconduct, the law requires specifics. Dates. Transactions. Contract references. Audit queries. None have been presented. This failure weakens their claims and exposes a reckless disregard for due process.
We note the following facts.
• Financial controls at NAHCON require endorsement by the Commissioner PPMF, Accounts, and Internal Audit before any payment is made.
• Procurement decisions are committee based, documented, and subject to statutory review.
• Cases referenced with the EFCC were inherited and involved Commissioners who are now attempting to posture as moral arbiters.
• Board members have no statutory power to pass or communicate a vote of no confidence in the Chairman.
More troubling is the pattern of internal sabotage.
• Unauthorized postings.
• Issuance of official correspondence without executive approval.
• Open defiance of lawful directives
.• Attempts to assume operational roles not provided for under the NAHCON Act.
This conduct amounts to insubordination and institutional vandalism.
Our demand.
We call for the immediate resignation of all Board members with pending or inherited EFCC cases. Oversight cannot be credible when clouded by unresolved investigations.
We further demand the resignation of any Board member who participated in issuing an unlawful vote of no confidence outside the procedures provided by law.
If they believe in accountability, they must submit themselves to it.
Nigeria’s Hajj administration is not a battleground for personal ambition or power struggles. It is a national trust involving lives, diplomacy, and international obligations.
The Commission needs stability. The law must prevail. Those without clean hands must step aside.
Anything short of this will confirm that the objective was never accountability, but control. We urge the Presidency and relevant authorities to act in the national interest.
