The former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau CFR, PhD, has commended the personnel of 3 Brigade Nigerian Army for their outstanding service to the nation and commitment to sustaining peace and stability in Kano State.
He made the commendation on Saturday 17 January 2026 during the 3 Brigade West African Social Activities (WASA) held at Bukavu Barracks, Kano.
A statement signed by Major Babatunde Zubairu acting assistant director army public relations,3 brigade Nigerian army said the event which marked the end of the 2025 training year brought together serving and retired senior military officers, personnel, families, representatives of sister security agencies and members of the host community.
Speaking at the occasion, the Special Guest of Honour, Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Dambazau CFR, (Rtd) said the WASA demonstrated that personnel have remained firmly connected to their cultural roots even as they discharge their constitutional responsibilities.
General Dambazau noted that the presence of distinguished guests at the event is a testament to the excellent relations the Brigade maintains with its host community as well as the synergy with other security agencies.
He commended the officers and men of 3 Brigade for their professionalism, discipline and resilience in maintaining security within their Area of Responsibility, particularly across Kano State, in collaboration with other security agencies.
According to him, the brigade’s collective efforts contributed significantly to curbing criminal activities and sustaining peace and stability in the state.
He paid tribute to personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty, noting that their sacrifices underscored the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to national security.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Commander, 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmad Tukur said the brigade recorded notable operational, training and administrative achievements in 2025.
The Brigade Commander proudly noted that 3 Brigade emerged first during the 1 Division Inter-Brigade Corporal and Below Competition held at Bukavu Barracks, and also emerged overall best at the 1 Division Inter-Brigade Warrant Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Competition in Kaduna.
Brigadier Tukur added that the brigade remained operationally active under Operation MESA, confronting banditry and other criminal activities in parts of Kano State, particularly in Shanono, Tsanyawa and Gwarzo Local Government Areas.
He said officers and soldiers of the brigade displayed courage and resolve in containing security threats, while honouring the memory of gallant soldiers and a personnel of the Nigerian Air Force who paid the supreme price during operations.
The Special Guest of Honour in his closing praised the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for providing an enabling environment for the Armed Forces of Nigeria to function.
He appreciated the Chief of Army Staff, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division, sister security agencies and the Kano State Government for their support and cooperation.
The event featured cultural displays, award presentations and interactions aimed at strengthening unity and civil–military relations.
