…Kadafur Donates N10 Million, Praises Gusi District for Sustaining Cultural

Borno State Deputy Governor, Dr. Umar Usman Kadafur, has commended the Gusi District for its role in promoting and sustaining the rich culture of its people.

The Deputy Governor made the remark during the 2025 Gusi District Annual Cultural Festival (Tsuhur Laku), organised by the Gusi District Development Association in the Kwaya Kusar Local Government Area.

The long-standing traditional festival brings together indigenes of the District from home and diaspora to celebrate their cultural heritage, foster peaceful coexistence, encourage community development, and promote youth participation..

Represented at the event by the Member representing Kwaya Kusar in the State Assembly, Hon. Ibrahim Babale, the Deputy Governor urged the community to sustain its efforts.

“I am delighted to witness this year’s Gusi District Annual Cultural Festival. This event has been a source of pride for not only the Biu Emirate but Borno State as a whole,” Kadafur stated.

“As part of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s administration to promote, sustain and strengthen our cultural heritage, we recently marked the maiden Biu Emirate Day celebration, which was a significant milestone in the history of the Emirate,” he added.

Dr. Kadafur stressed that Governor Zulum’s administration is not only bolstering security, rebuilding lives after a decade of insurgency, and providing infrastructure, but also reviving and promoting the cultural values of the state.

The Deputy Governor announced a donation of ₦10 million to the Association to support its activities.

The Emir of Biu, HRH Alhaji Mustapha Umar Mustapha II, represented by the Birma of Biu, Alhaji Ibrahim Shehu Birma, commended the Association for promoting the District and advancing the interests of its people.

The royal father promised that the Emirate would continue to support the District and promote the existing peaceful coexistence among its people.

The event featured cultural dances by various groups, including the Gusi Cultural Troupe, Para Group Walama, Shelleng, and Yimirzalang, among others. There was also a display of various cultural and traditional artefacts from the district.

The festival was attended by a Federal High Court Judge, Justice Hyeladzira Ajiya Nganjuwa; the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Haruna Hassan Tela; the Special Adviser on Media to the Borno State Governor, Dauda Iliya; a representative of the Emir of Shani; and the Chairman-elect of Kwaya Kusar Local Government, Hon. Dahiru Hamma Pick II.

Also in attendance were the APC Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Nuhu Alhassan Gadam; the APC Local Government Stakeholders Chairman, Alhaji Idrissa Jagali; the Kwaya Kusar Education Secretary, Dr. Salihu Ibrahim; the Deputy Director of Protocol, Kadiri Shuaibu Gusi; and other distinguished personalities.
