Arrest 3,081 Suspects, Recover Arms, Drugs in 2025 — CP Bakori
The Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, says the Command arrested a total of 3,081 suspects for various crimes and recovered large caches of arms, drugs and stolen items across the state in 2025.
He was speaking during an end-of-year press briefing held at the Bompai Police Headquarters, Kano.
Alh Ibrahim Adamu Bakori reviewed the Command’s achievements in crime prevention and peacebuilding since assuming office March this year.
According to the CP, a security assessment conducted at the beginning of his tenure identified key threats including thuggery, mobile phone robbery and drug abuse in metropolitan Kano, infiltration of bandits through border local government areas, and recurrent farmers–herders clashes in several rural communities.
The CP said a comprehensive crime-mapping exercise led to the adoption of strategic measures such as intelligence-led policing, enhanced community engagement, capacity building for officers, joint border patrols with sister security agencies and the launch of “Operation Kukan Kura.
”Bakori said the Command recorded significant operational successes between January and December 2025, with arrests spanning armed robbery, kidnapping, drug trafficking, vehicle theft, fraud and thuggery across the state’s police divisions, area commands and tactical units.
He noted that among those arrested were 146 armed robbery suspects, 50 kidnapping suspects, 112 suspected drug dealers and over 2,300 suspected thugs, while 14 kidnap victims were successfully rescued during various operations.
The commissioner further revealed that police operatives recovered several firearms including AK-47 rifles, pistols and locally made guns, as well as ammunition, dangerous weapons, illicit drugs, stolen vehicles, motorcycles, tricycles, mobile phones and other criminal exhibits.
Bakori said the Command would sustain and strengthen its strategies in 2026 through expanded community policing, improved visibility patrols, enhanced intelligence gathering, increased manpower and equipment deployment, particularly in border areas, and continuous public sensitisation.
The CP therefore commended the Kano State Government, other security agencies, traditional and religious leaders, the media and community stakeholders for their support, noting that the decline in crime had ushered in improved peace and security across the State.
