In Kaduna State,On Monday, 5th January 2026, the Executive Chairman of Zaria Local Government Council Engr. Jamil Ahmad Muhammad (Jaga), convened the Councilโs statutory monthly meeting/Finance and General Purposes Committee (F&GPC) with heads of departments and top political appointees.
The meeting focused on reviewing ongoing programmes and policies aimed at accelerating comprehensive development and implementation across the Local Government Area. Detailed reports were presented from various sectors, followed by extensive deliberations and resolutions on key issues directly linked to service delivery and grassroots development
.under the leadership of Engr. Jaga, the Council approved several critical projects, aimed at strengthening infrastructure, healthcare delivery, water supply, and security across Zaria Local Government.The approved projects include:
1. Power Infrastructure Development:Construction of 920 metres of 11KV ITC line, construction of 1,140 metres of TDN line, and the installation of three (3) 500KVA substations at three strategic locations within Zaria.
2. Drainage and Flood Control:Construction of one (1) box culvert at Gidan Maliki (Dutsen Abba) to enhance drainage and prevent erosion and flooding.
3. Healthcare Strengthening:Purchase of essential hospital equipment for Primary Health Care centres in Kwaba, Jakara, and Anguwan Bashir, to improve access to quality healthcare services.
4. Water Supply and Sanitation:Repair and rehabilitation of 130 hand-pump and solar-powered boreholes across the 13 wards of Zaria Local Government, to ensure access to clean and safe drinking water.
5. Security Support:Purchase of eight (8) tyres for security operational vehicles deployed at the Dorayi Rapid Response and Wusasa Rapid Response (MOPOL) units, to enhance security operations and rapid response capability.
In furtherance of preparations to commence the 2026 administrative year with clear direction and renewed commitment, the Executive Chairman, Engr. Jamil Ahmad Muhammad (Jaga), also presided over a Security Committee Meeting.
The meeting was well attended by representatives of all security agencies operating within the Local Government, alongside traditional and religious leaders and members of the Councilโs management team.
The engagement formed part of the administrationโs routine but strategic efforts to maintain peace, stability, and public safety within Zaria Local Government Area.
During the meeting, the Chairman commended the security agencies for their professionalism, vigilance, and dedication, and particularly acknowledged the significant security improvements recorded in 2025.He noted with satisfaction that the Local Government currently enjoys zero incidents of banditry and kidnapping.
The Chairman further recognized the critical role played by religious and community leaders in fostering unity and sustaining peace across communities.
He stressed the importance of sustaining the current momentum in order to consolidate existing gains and maintain a consistently low crime rate.Security briefings and reports were presented, carefully reviewed, and deliberated upon, leading to resolutions focused on strengthening existing security frameworks and proactive measures within the Local Government Area.
Later in the day, the Chairman received several groups and individuals on courtesy visits, including the Saiyada Jamila Group, who presented an Award of Excellence in recognition of his leadership and commitment to good governance.
